By using Scholar Sidekick, you agree to use it lawfully and responsibly. Do not use it to break the law, to infringe anyone else's rights, or in a way that degrades the service for other people. Programmatic use is additionally governed by our API Terms.
An account is optional; the tools and the free tier work without one. If you create an account, keep your sign-in details and API keys confidential - you are responsible for activity carried out under them. You can revoke any key yourself from your account page, and you should do so promptly if you think a key has been exposed.
We may suspend or close an account for abuse, security risk, or breach of these terms; normally we will tell you why, though we may act immediately where there is a risk to the service or to other users. You can close your account at any time by asking us. Closing an account revokes every API key issued under it.
The bibliography audit tool is free, and its verdicts are never withheld behind payment. You may optionally buy a downloadable evidence report that packages those results into a citable document. The price is shown at checkout in US dollars and is charged by Stripe; the report is made available immediately.
Please note how the purchase is stored.It is not attached to your account. It is recorded in the browser you bought it in, and it unlocks report downloads in that browser from then on - it is not consumed by a single report. If you clear your browser's site data you may lose access; the tool offers a way to restore a purchase, and we can help if that fails. Using a different browser or device means the purchase is not recognised there.
If you change your mind, email us within 14 days of purchase and we will refund you in full. You do not need to give a reason. Because the report is delivered immediately and the unlock is held in your browser, we do not attempt to withdraw access when we refund.
This is a voluntary policy offered in addition to your legal rights, not instead of them. If the report is faulty, is not as described, or does not do what we said it would, you may be entitled to a remedy regardless of how long ago you bought it.
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. Scholar Sidekick reports what public bibliographic sources say about a reference; it is a check, not a guarantee, and those sources can be incomplete or wrong. You remain responsible for the citations you publish and for any decision you make on the strength of a result.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any guarantee, right, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or under any other consumer protection law that applies to you and cannot be excluded. Where our liability can lawfully be limited, it is limited to resupplying the service or refunding what you paid for it.
Uptime is best-effort and no service level is guaranteed. We may change, add, or withdraw features, and we may change these terms - if we do, the revised version is posted here with a new “Last updated” date, and we will tell account holders in advance of changes that materially affect them.
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the courts there have non-exclusive jurisdiction. If you use Scholar Sidekick as a consumer somewhere else, this does not deprive you of the protection of any mandatory law that applies where you live.
